SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
LOCATION: MIDDLETOWN, NEW YORK
SCHEDULE: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
COMPENSATION: Competitive, commensurate with experience


Our client is a well-established transportation company serving the energy and industrial markets and is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant. This is a hands-on accounting position involving general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, tax compliance, audit support, insurance audits, owner-operator accounting, and benefits administration. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting experience, excellent Excel skills, and the ability to communicate professionally with company ownership, employees, vendors, customers, and auditors. Previous trucking or transportation industry experience is a plus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain general ledger accounts, perform account and bank reconciliations, and assist with month-end and year-end closing.
  • Prepare financial reports, journal entries, payment transactions, and account analyses.
  • Manage owner-operator accounting, including chargebacks, settlements, escrow accounts, and 1099 preparation.
  • Prepare and file applicable federal, state, sales, HUT, IFTA, and other transportation-related tax filings.
  • Support workers’ compensation, insurance, union, and financial audits, including preparation of reports and documentation.
  • Track union dues, pension and welfare contributions, employee benefits, and related payments.
  • Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and other accounting functions as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records, spreadsheets, and reporting; research and resolve accounting and tax issues.
  • Communicate professionally with company ownership, employees, vendors, customers, and outside auditors.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 4 years of accounting and financial experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong general ledger and reconciliation experience.
  • Experience performing financial, insurance, or workers’ compensation audits.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUPs/XLOOKUPs, and large data sets.
  • Experience with accounting/ERP software; Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) preferred. SAP, Epicor, Oracle, or comparable systems also considered.
  • Experience with tax preparation, reporting, and compliance.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work professionally and confidently with ownership, vendors, customers, and employees.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial and employee information.
